My Big Fat Wool

My Big Fat Wool is an undyed thick 100% wool yarn measuring 100 meters at 100 grams. A Blue Face Leicester sheep spun in Germany with a lot of luster. The yarn is worsted and loosely spun in a 3-ply. Although not superwash treated the thread dyes easily. (Proper pre-soaking is important for this yarn to get an even effect). You can knit the yarn with needles 5 to 6. Thinner needles give a stiffer knit, thicker needles give the yarn a lot of "drape."

Loret Karman on My Big Fat Wool: I find that the yarn knits very fine and am still looking for the "right" knitting needles. On metal the knitting slides just a little too easily for my hand of knitting, with bamboo I am still searching for the right shape of the tip. Since the yarn is loosely twined, the tip should not be too sharp. While knitting, there will soon be quite a bit of weight on your knitting needles. The yarn has good stitch definition, partly because of its sheen. Because of the specific gravity of this yarn, I would not knit a cardigan in ribbing with this as there is a high risk of it continuing to grow while you wear it.
